AURORA - One person died and four others were taken to the hospital on Wednesday night after a two-car crash that shut down a road.

Aurora Police says the crash happened near South Chambers Way and Quincy Avenue in southeast Aurora around 8 p.m.

Witnesses told police the driver of a maroon Isuzu Trooper was going west on Quincy when the driver of a black Ford Focus ran a red light at East Hampden Avenue and South Chambers Road.

When the two vehicles collided, the right front seat passenger in the Isuzu was thrown out and ended up underneath the vehicle when it rolled.

Five police officers lifted the Isuzu high enough so that bystanders could pull the male passenger out from under the vehicle. He died at the hospital.

The driver and two other passengers in the Isuzu were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The woman driving the Ford Focus was cut from her car and taken to the hospital with a large cut on her forehead.

Quincy was closed while police investigated and cleared the scene.

Police believe alcohol and speed contributed to the crash. They say it also appears the front seat passenger in the Isuzu, the man who died, was not wearing a seatbelt.

The people inside the Isuzu were from Wisconsin. Police believe they were coworkers who were in the Denver area attempting to expand a business.

All names are being withheld until family can be notified.
