9NEWS was flooded with calls from viewers saying they witnessed what looked like a giant ball of fire.

University of Colorado Astronomy Professor, Dr. Doug Duncan, told 9NEWS it was likely the International Space Station.

However, members of the Denver Broncos Thunderstorm skydiving team insisted that their pyrotechnics caused the bright lights.

Several members jumped into the stadium on Monday night using pyrotechnics. One 9NEWS viewer described it as a "sparkler trail."

The skydiving team is based out of Longmont.
