Platte Valley firefighters were called to the home at 31721 Weld County Road 53 around 2:45 a.m. Monday. The home is northeast of Greeley, about five miles north of Kersey.

Officials say it appears the couple was trying to put out the fire caused by the propane leak, when it exploded. The man and woman were rushed to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. Firefighters say both people received "significant injuries," and add that one person is in critical condition.

Responding firefighters requested a second alarm, calling in assistance from the Galeton Fire Department. Investigators say the house is a total loss.

The identities of the man and woman were not immediately released. 9NEWS.com will continue to update this story as additional information is confirmed.
