Crash sends truck into Blockbuster store, 5 injured

LONGMONT - A chain reaction accident sent a truck barreling through a coffee shop and into a Blockbuster store Saturday night, injuring five people.

Investigators say around 9:30 p.m. a blue Dodge pickup slammed into a Subaru Outback at 17th Avenue and Hover Street.

Longmont Police say the impact sent the Subaru flying into a curb and the truck crashing through Cuppy's coffee shop and then a Blockbuster store.

Police say the truck driver, 37-year-old Steven Williams of Longmont, sped through an intersection before slamming into the Subaru.

The Subaru, driven by 50-year-old Bruce Kline, crashed into a Chevy Blazer driven by 21-year-old Maricruz Gutierrez.

All three drivers, plus Kline's wife and 17-year-old daughter were taken to Longmont United Hospital. Their conditions were not released.

Three employees were inside the Blockbuster when it happened, but no one was injured inside the store.

"I don't know what happened. All this stuff pushed me forward and I thought a bomb went off," Blockbuster employee Danielle Robertson said.

Police suspect alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash. Charges against Williams are pending.
