DIA says many of the large crowds were seen Sunday morning and tapered off as the day wore on. However, another surge of travelers is expected Sunday evening.

DIA says Monday will also be a busy day at the airport.

Authorities say the best advice to those heading out to DIA is to get there early and pack plenty of patience.

The airport expects more than 960,000 passengers between Tuesday and Monday. That would make it the second-busiest Thanksgiving ever at the airport, just a few thousand behind the record set in 2006.

Sunday was expected to be the busiest travel day, as travelers return from their trips. Wednesday was expected to be the second-busiest day.

Parking lots at the airport were filling up fast. To check availability, visit www.FlyDenver.com.

The Transportation Security Administration also wants to remind people that if you are packing gifts in your carry-on luggage, you should not wrap it, because they will ask you to unwrap it at the security checkpoints.
