Food lover turns Qdoba obsession into free meals for others
|
DENVER - Tim Urban is not shy about it. ![]() "It is an addiction," he said. "I like to call it a healthy addiction, it's a little bit better than being on some of the other fast food things." Urban really really likes Qdoba. If his wife Angela allowed it, she joked, that's all Urban would eat. "He would have Qdoba 24-7, so either I need cooking classes, or he needs, I don't know," Angela laughed. The addiction is so serious, Urban, his buddies and family have eaten 430 meals at the restaurant over the last three or four years. That translated into 43,000 points on Urban's Qdoba card and 43 free meals he could have had. "I had an embarrassingly large number of points on my Qdoba card," laughed Urban, "I'm ashamed to admit. It was funny to see people's reactions when I go into the Qdobas, they see how many points I had, they've done double takes and triple takes." "That's personally the most I've ever heard built up by one consumer," Nick Filler, marketing manager of Qdoba's Colorado and Missouri restaurants, said. Instead of using his free meals, Urban decided to share. He asked Qdoba to match his donation and asked fellow Littleton firefighters for help. More than 240 burritos were served at the Samaritan House Tuesday night. The Samaritan House provides shelter for homeless men, women and children. Nate Paxton, assistant operations director there told 9NEWS donations like that are critical. Urban hopes his actions will inspire others to donate. He might do this again next year, which means he has got to start eating. "I really gotta start picking up, 2 a-days, 3 a-days maybe," he said. "If they served breakfast that would help."
