CSU player accused of pointing gun at teammate's head
|
FORT COLLINS - Xavier Kilby, a Colorado State University men's basketball player, was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at teammate Ronnie Aguilar's head. ![]() Kilby, a 21-year-old forward from Phoenix, was arrested on suspicion of felony menacing and prohibited use of weapons, a misdemeanor, stemming from the early Sunday morning incident, Fort Collins Police spokeswoman Rita Davis said this afternoon. Davis said police received a report about 2:54 a.m. Sunday of a weapon being discharged at 1117 City Park Ave., Apartment J-7, Kilby's residence. Davis said Kilby and Aguilar got into an argument in the living room and that Kilby pulled out a small revolver, pointed it at Aguilar's head and then pointed the gun at a couch and discharged the weapon. Davis said Stephan Gilling, another CSU men's basketball player, also was in the living room at the time of the incident. Two other people were elsewhere in the apartment at the time, Davis said, and no one was injured. Davis said Aguilar left the apartment after the shooting and went home and called police. Officers arrived at Kilby's apartment and arrested him without incident, Davis said. Recently hired CSU men's basketball coach Tim Miles issued a statement today through the school, saying "Our expectations for the student-athletes in our program is that they are commendable citizens who are held in high regard. This type of behavior is neither acceptable nor tolerable. He (Kilby) will not be allowed to be a part of any team activities until further notice." Kilby averaged 4.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 28 games this past season for the Rams. Teammates said he was not expected to return next season after CSU fired coach Dale Layer and replaced him with Miles. Aguilar, a 7-foot, 250-pound redshirt freshman center, played 19 minutes in 11 games this past season. He averaged 0.2 points and 0.3 rebounds a game. Gilling, a 6-2, 200-pound guard from Chino Hills, Calif., played in all 30 games last season and averaged 8.9 points and 1.4 rebounds a game. (Fort Collins Coloradoan. All rights reserved.)
