Explosion reported; firefighters contain basement blaze

WESTMINSTER – Firefighters extinguished a basement fire on Sunday morning, about 30 minutes after receiving the call. ![]() Westminster Fire and Police Departments responded to the call of an explosion and a possible fire in the 3500 block of 76th Avenue at about 10:50 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters first arrived on scene three minutes later, they say they found smoke billowing from the basement of the home, but saw no flames. Authorities say residents had evacuated. Crews made their way into the basement where they found heavy smoke and fire. Fire officials say the fire was extinguished by 11:23 a.m. A cat was rescued from the home and no one was injured in the blaze. Fire officials say the explosion and fire are still under investigation. (Copyright KUSA*TV, All Rights Reserved)
