John Elway signs on as Cherry Creek QB coach
|
GREENWOOD VILLAGE – Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway has signed on as the new quarterbacks coach at Cherry Creek High School, athletic director Randy McCall said Wednesday. ![]() John Elway will be working along side his son, Jack, this season. Last year, Jack Elway had 83 pass completions for 932 yards and one touchdown. He was behind a Bruins team that went 5-4 in the regular season, then lost to Mullen in the second round of the CHSAA Class 5A state tournament. "I think that John, for a long time, has wanted to be more involved with coaching his son," he said. "He's had a lot of things going on and he's never been able to make a time commitment to do it. "Without speaking for him, I think he feels that this is a great opportunity. He was able to clear off time in the afternoons to do this." McCall doesn't specifically know how John Elway will be used on the Bruins' coaching staff and will leave those decisions to head coach Greg Critchett. Jack Elway has not yet committed to a college, but has garnered interest by several NCAA Division I schools, including Colorado, LSU and Stanford, his father's alma mater. McCall said discussions between the former Broncos' signal caller had been in the works for some time, but "I know it was finalized at the start of the fall season," he said.
