Colo. earthquake 'sounded like a train'
|
FREMONT COUNTY – The Fremont County Sheriff's Office says it doesn't appear there was any damage from a small earthquake Friday night. ![]() The 3.1 magnitude quake happened just before 9 p.m. Friday, 20 miles east of Salida, near the small town of Texas Creek. Those who called the sheriff's office, wondering what had happened, said it sounded like a train or an explosion. Twelve years ago, Sheriff James Beicker says there was a 3.4 magnitude quake on the Fremont/El Paso County line. According to the National Earthquake Information Center, the largest earthquake in Colorado history was a 6.6 earthquake. It happened on Nov. 8, 1882. The exact location is unknown, although it is believed to have happened near the Colorado/Wyoming border. (Copyright KUSA*TV, All Rights Reserved)
