Steve Spangler Science: Summer Science Camp
|
It's summer camp season in Colorado. But kids aren't the only ones doing the camping. This week in Broomfield, a summer science camp for teachers is underway.. ![]() 9News Science Guy Steve Spangler is taking these teachers through their paces at the Aspen Creek School in Broomfield. The camp is sponsored by the National Hands-on Science Institute which is now celebrating its 12th year of teaching teachers how to be amazing science teachers. "This is the only teacher training model of its kind in the country," according to Spangler. "Teachers teach teachers in the morning session and then immediately share what they learned with enthusiastic children who attend the summer science camp portion of the program in the afternoon." Among other things, the teachers have been learning how to wow kids by launching pop bottle rockets (actual soda pop bottles that is) using nothing but water and oxygen. They've also been floating huge tubular solar bags, popping cans of canned fire, and learning how to creatively encourage science experiment safety using whipping cream.
