DNC attendees have holograms in hand

reported by: Shawn Patrick     2 years ago

DENVER - After waiting to find out, residents walked under their umbrellas into a damp parking garage to receive their credentials for Barack Obama's nomination acceptance speech.

The Obama staff moved the credential pickup into the garage as rain steadily poured over a parking lot on South Colorado Boulevard.

It was one of several locations where speech attendees picked up their hologram credentials.

"I just thought it would be a really long line, but not with this weather," said Amy Hartenstine.

But Hartenstine says she felt so lucky, she compared her new pass to Willie Wonka's golden ticket.

Suddenly, she finds herself getting more requests from friends.

"That's the first thing people say is, 'Oh, do you have another one?' I'm like, 'No sorry,'" said Hartenstine.

Many residents found out by e-mail late this week that they were one of the estimated 75,000 chosen to attend Obama's speech the final night of the Democratic National Convention at Mile High at INVESCO Field.

"I can't wait to call my grandma in Uganda and tell her that I was there," said Joy Twesigye.

It's a night some of these supporters say will put Denver on the map.

"I've seen a lot of politics. I think it should be historic, not only for the city of Denver, a great city and the state of Colorado, but nationally," said Aroxie Feldman.
