|
AURORA – A former member of the Denver Broncos is facing charges of vehicular homicide after police say he hit and killed a man on a scooter. ![]() The car-scooter collision happened Thursday morning near the intersection of Quincy Road and Parker Road in Aurora, and forced some nearby roads to close for awhile. Aurora Police say around 6:10 a.m. 34-year-old Billy Jenkins was driving a silver Dodge Journey and rear ended a scooter driven by 51-year-old Tracy Gill. Jenkins played for the Broncos in 2000 and 2001 and before that he won a Super Bowl Championship with the St. Louis Rams in 1999. He left the NFL in 2002. According to police, Jenkins then went on to hit another car, which sent that vehicle into another car, as they were stopped on Parker Road at Quincy. The drivers of the two other cars, 19-year-old, Sabrina Mata and 21-year-old Rebecca Chiri, both suffered minor injuries. Gill was thrown off his scooter and pronounced dead at the scene. Police say after the crash, Jenkins ran from his truck into the nearby Cherry Creek State Park before returning to the scene later. He was not hurt in the accidents. Jenkins is facing charges of vehicular homicide, hit and run – involving death, driving under the influence and careless driving. He was released after he posted a bond of $50,000.
