Denver Police say the boy was found early on the morning of Feb. 14 in the area of Federal Boulevard and Alameda Avenue. He was taken to The Children's Hospital for burns on his upper body.

Police determined he was burned earlier at a party in the 500 block of South Decatur Street.

"When I first hear this I was like, 'What?'" Sonny Jackson, Denver Police spokesman, said. "It's appalling when you hear something like that."

Jackson says a driver noticed the 14-year-old boy running erratically near Alameda and Federal early on Valentine's Day.

When the driver stopped, he or she noticed the boy had severe burns on his hands, chest, neck and face.

"It's a lot of pain," Jackson said. "It's going to take a while for him to heal."

According to the arrest affidavit, about 20 people were at the party. Erick Perez, one of the people facing charges in the case, told officers the teen put lighter fluid on himself and one of the party goers lit him on fire.

Perez says he didn't stop it because he was intoxicated.

One witness says that Damian Sibayan and Cody Cummings poured the lighter fluid on the teen while the 14-year-old was passed out in the house, according to the affidavit. Perez then tried to set the teen on fire, but his lighter did not work, so Sibayan lit him on fire.

Another part of the affidavit claims the boy poured lighter fluid on himself, and another person who spoke with police claimed the boy asked to have the lighter fluid poured on him and be lit on fire.

According to the affidavit, another witness says several of the men were laughing as the teen was on fire and screaming for help.

Neighbors who live near the home where the party took place report hearing loud music from time to time.

"Just a lot of partying every once in a while when I'm coming home from work," Mike Pudwill, a neighbor, said.

Pudwill's housemate noticed police at the home after the party.

"It's pretty disturbing knowing it happened three doors away from my house," he said.

Police arrested eight different people in connection with the case.
