SNOWMASS VILLAGE - More than 400 disabled veterans were surprised Sunday evening by Vice President Joe Biden. Biden stopped by the opening ceremony of the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass Village to thank them.
The clinic is in its 25th year. It brings hundreds of disabled veterans to Colorado each year to participate in winter sports.
"I think it's pretty awesome. Veterans have given a lot for this country," Jim Kellis, a disabled veteran, said.
Kellis and many others heard rumors the Vice President was in town, but they never thought he would stop by.
"It wouldn't matter to me what President, what Vice President you've ever got to meet or sit in a room with. Regardless, it would be an awesome experience," Kellis said.
When the Vice President entered the room, everyone stood and cheered.
"You're a remarkable group of people," Biden said. "[You're] a group that has never feared the future".
The Vice President was accompanied by his family; including his son who returned from war a year ago.
"It's an honor to be here," Biden said. "Thank you."
The National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic continues through the week. It wraps up Friday evening.
