DENVER - A Lakewood man who recently celebrated his 50th birthday was killed by a hit-and-run driver Monday while riding his bicycle to work.

The accident happened Monday morning in the area of 46th Avenue and Josephine Street just after 5 a.m.

The victim, David Pickett, was headed to work on his bike down eastbound 46th when he was struck by a car heading northbound on Josephine, according to police.

Pickett was an employee at AT&T; he was a communications specialist.

"The feeling over the entire office was absolute devastation," said Jennifer Fife, a co-worker.

Pickett's wife is also an employee at AT&T. According to Pickett's brother Jeff, the family relied heavily on their faith.

"We're a Christian family," Jeff Pickett said. "We know we'll see David again someday."

Monday evening, Jennifer Fife drove to 46th and Josephine to place posters around the site where Pickett was killed.

"We're just asking the community to please come forward," Fife said.

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash and are working on a vehicle description.

Tuesday morning, AT&T released a statement regarding the hit-and-run accident. It read:

"We are saddened to learn of the death of one of our employees this morning and offer condolences to the family. At this point, we do not have any further details and will direct additional questions to local law enforcement."
