DENVER - It was the hottest ticket in town Saturday night. Fans have waited almost a full year for this evening - the U2 concert at Invesco Field at Mile High. Saturday is even more special for a local band gone big. The Fray opened for U2.

The Fray are four friends from Denver who broke big in 2005 with their debut album, " How to Save a Life," which went double platinum. They have been making hits every since while still calling Denver home.

9NEWS Kirk Montgomery got an exclusive interview with the band Saturday. They talked about what the night means to them.

"We are in the bowels of Invesco Field. That's the main thing - it's been a long time coming," Isaac Slade said. "Man we've been playing this town for 9 years, circling this stadium ever since we started. Our very first show was in Federal Heights, trying to remember the keys to our songs. The fans put us here. We are really proud to play it."

"We are proud to be doing this, especially [in our] hometown. It feels significant. It's hard to take it in coming from the small little venues we played," Joe King said. "All our family and friends are coming to the show. This is a monumental night for us, so we thank you Denver!"

The group will play four other shows during this tour with U2. They are halfway through working on a new album.
