Leslie Branch-Wise, a detective with Denver Police, says the bicyclist was traveling westbound on 13th Avenue at Osage Street when he was struck by the southbound train. The man was taken to Denver Health where he later died.
"It doesn't appear that he was attempting to be hit or anything," Branch-Wise said. "It just appeared that as a lot of us do, maybe we don't take the precautions necessary when we're trying to cross. We're in a hurry."
Kaitlyn McDonald was on the train when the accident happened.
"We were on the Light Rail and all of a sudden the driver started honking the horn and he slammed on the brakes and we saw a body fly past the window and land to the side of the train," McDonald said.
The man's name has not been released, pending notification of family.
