Boulder Police say the cat died a few hours after it happened.
Police arrested 21-year-old Danielle Blankenship. According to the Daily Camera, she faces a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty and a charge of third-degree assault. She is out of jail after posting a $1,500 bond.
The Daily Camera reports police were called to a home after Blankenship's boyfriend claimed she hit him in the face. When officers got there, they found the cat, named Muffin, unresponsive at the bottom of the stairs.
The Daily Camera reports the cat belonged to Blankenship's boyfriend's roommate. Blankenship's boyfriend told officers she had been smoking heroin and blew the smoke into the cat's face.
A toxicology and necropsy are being done on the cat to see if there were any drugs in its system, according to the Daily Camera.
