Tim Larsen, who is 6 years old, has been battling a serious blood disease for the last six months.

He sings and plays several different instruments as part of his treatment at Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden.

Musical therapists want patients to express their feelings and try to allow music to replace thoughts of being sick.

Researchers have analyzed 30 scientific studies on musical therapy with 1,800 cancer patients.

Sixty-four percent received musical therapy and said their pain was reduced. Larsen says he likes to play the drums the most and his mother said music has markedly helped her son cope.
