The board voted on Thursday night to start filtering all computers in the library.

"This is about offering a safe and welcoming environment for everyone and to protect," Rebecca Winning, associate director of communications and public engagement for the Jefferson County Library, said. "One board member said at the meeting, 'I don't want one other child coming into this library and seeing something they shouldn't be seeing.'"

Previously, the library only filtered computers used by children or teens.

In July, parents complained to 9Wants to Know that children could still view the images adults were viewing at the library. The filters will be up and running next week.

"It is more important to have a welcoming environment than to allow adults to view porn," Winning said. "Sometimes you have to balance the rights of individuals, and we decided it was more important to protect the children."
