Anthony Alvarez, 40, is the assistant principal at Arvada High School. He was arrested Thursday night and charged Friday morning with sexual assault on a child.
Alvarez' wife turned him in.
According to the affidavit, Stephanie Alvarez overheard her husband talking on the phone with a girl and having an inappropriate conversation.
She says she also found inappropriate messages on her husband's Facebook page.
When Stephanie Alvarez confronted her husband about the affair with the student, Anthony Alvarez admitted to it. He then turned himself in to the Arvada Police Department Thursday evening.
Alvarez admitted he met the 15-year-old when he was a teacher at Everett Middle School when the student was in seventh grade.
Alvarez claims the student initiated the relationship and she made advances towards him.
When police interviewed the girl, she admitted Alvarez and her have had a relationship for six to eight months and that she felt he was always "blackmailing" her.
Students at Arvada High School can't believe the news.
"Mr. Alvarez is a great guy. You would never expect it of him. He always tried to make it to football games. He was always very active with all the kids; just really, really shocked," Josh Lobato, a student at Arvada High School, said.
"Alvarez is a pretty cool guy. We go to him for everything. Everything just shocks me. He doesn't seem like he would do that to a student," Keara Collester, another student at Arvada High School, said.
Alvarez is in charge of the cheerleading and pom squad at Arvada High School.
"There are no indications there are additional victims but of course the investigation continues," Susan Medina with Arvada Police said.
""We take the charges very seriously and are cooperating fully with the law enforcement investigation," Lynn Setzer with Jeffco Public Schools said.
Jeffco sent out a letter about the incident to parents Friday.
Alvarez has been an assistant principal at Arvada High School since 2008 and has been with the district since 2000.
The school district has placed him on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Alvarez has no criminal history, not even a speeding ticket.
Alvarez is facing two felony counts of sexual assault by a person in a position of trust and pattern.
He is currently in Jefferson County Jail on a $5,000 bond. He is will be in court again on Sept. 1.
