GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL 2011 PHOTOS
The Denver Convention Center is sort of like the Willy Wonka Factory of Beer this weekend with the Great American Beer Festival. Even if you're not a beer fan, it's a big deal - because beer is big business in Colorado. The state has 118 brewery's, the fourth most in the nation.
An estimated 49,000 people will be attending the three day festival.
Brandon Hall showed up 3.5 half hours before the doors opened at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
"It's kind of a tradition actually. We've been here 8 or 9 years. We're here first, might as well hang out here, better than hanging out at home," Hall said.
When the bagpipes signaled the start of the 3-day festival, Hall and his buddies took off like a pack of wolves. Their prey comes in all sorts of colors - light, dark, and even amber.
Some enjoy their suds wearing pajamas and funny hats. The only fashion statement is a pretzel necklace.
The festival means a lot to Denver's economy. Half of the $60 tickets were sold to people from outside the state.
With that much beer flowing, there are bound to be some who have a few too many samples. They do have plenty of security at The Convention Center and there are several DPD officers there as well.
