The Adams County Sheriffs Office says 40-year-old Joe Sandoval was pulled over at 11:42 p.m. near 84th Avenue and Conifer Road.

Sandoval is running for one of two at-large city council seats in the Commerce City elections on Nov. 1, according to the elections website.

Sandoval was issued a summons and taken to a detox facility, which is standard procedure according to deputies. It is unknown if he has been released.

According to the Commerce City elections website, Sandoval is currently a criminal investigator with the Colorado Department of Revenue in the Gaming and Medical Marijuana Enforcement Divisions. He is a former Commerce City Police sergeant, school resource officer and public information officer.
