DENVER - Nearly 12,000 runners took to the streets of downtown for Denver's Rock n' Roll Marathon events today.
Everyone participating was sure happy to see what a difference a day can make in Colorado. Sunday was sunny and mild for the marathon.
Many participants also praised the course for being relatively flat and full of fun urban distractions.
There were plenty of spectators to cheer on those at the finish line at 14th Avenue at Civic Center Park.
The event was particularly special to Gavin Maitland who ran the 1/2 marathon relay Sunday. It's his first major run since his double lung transplant about three years ago.
Gavin had run three marathons before his double lung transplant.
He intends to run a full marathon next year and he says training starts tomorrow.
The winner of the men's race shaved 44 seconds off the record. Chris Siemers, who lives in the Denver area, won with a 2:18:48 time. And Heather Utrata of Englewood won the women's race with a time of 2:50:38.
