Sixteen-year-old Kaitlin Brand says her mother died on Oct. 5. Kaitlin found her mother's body, hanging in the woods near her home.
Kaitlin says about a year ago she started to notice a change in her mother after a series of surgeries left her struggling with depression.
"She wasn't full of life like she used to be and she was sad a lot and she didn't laugh out loud like she used to," Kaitlin said. "I started to think that I was losing her in a sense."
Kaitlin posted the video tribute to her mother on Oct. 24, just three days before her 16th birthday.
In the video, Kaitlin explains her mother's death and holds up messages that say, "If you are having suicidal thoughts, or know someone who is, GET HELP."
"I just want to impact other people's lives so they know that they don't have to be going through depression," Kaitlin said. "They can get help and it's a good thing to get help."
Kaitlin ends the video with these messages: "Life gets better. I promise. I'm also here if you need to talk. Thanks for watching. I love you."
