In August, a neighbor called 911 saying a bear attacked her goat. Wildlife officers tracked down a mother bear and her two cubs. The officer killed the mother bear, leaving the cubs behind. The community of Crestone was furious over the action, alleging the CPW officer killed the wrong bear.
An external professional standards team reviews what the internal investigation found, and those findings will be released in a few weeks.
The mother bear's cubs remain at a wildlife refuge in southern Colorado. They could be released in to the wild early next year.
