2012 Pro Cycling Challenge changes cities, adds Boulder

DENVER - The 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge race will take place in 13 cities across Colorado from Aug. 20-26.

After the success of this summer's inaugural race, the USPCC was approached by 25 cities hoping to host either a start or finish for this year's competition.

After careful consideration by race officials the cities of Durango and Boulder were added to this year's race.

Cities left off the circuit from a year ago include Steamboat Springs, Vail and Salida.

The race will begin in Durango on Aug. 20 and finish in Denver on Sunday, Aug. 26.

9NEWS has confirmed that these are the host cities for the race:

Monday, Aug. 20 - Durango to Telluride
Tuesday, Aug. 21 - Montrose to Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte
Wednesday, Aug. 22 - Gunnison to Aspen
Thursday, Aug. 23 - Aspen to Beaver Creek
Friday, Aug. 24 - Breckenridge to Colorado Springs
Saturday, Aug. 25 - Golden to Boulder
Sunday, Aug. 26 - Denver (Individual Time Trial)

American Levi Leipheimer won the 2011 race.
