The hotel is located off Parker Road and I-225.
Starting late Saturday night and lasting until early Sunday morning, 750 up to 1,000 partygoers filled the Red Lion Hotel in Aurora. There were fights breaking out, one officer was hit in the head with a bottle and officers had to shoot an armed man in a stairwell.
According to Aurora Police, there were reports of shots fired, forcing officers to call for all available backup. They did not find a suspect or victim at that time but did find blood in the lobby.
Aurora Police later heard calls of fights breaking out on different floors of the hotel. Several people were arrested due to those fights.
Around 2:30 a.m., gunshots were heard on the 8th floor of the hotel, and a team of officers had to climb the stairs to investigate. They found an armed man and had to shoot him to subdue him. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
"This scene could probably best be described as chaotic," Sergeant Cassidee Carlson, PIO for Aurora Police told 9NEWS. "It lasted several hours. There's a series of up and downs. There [are] fights breaking out in front of officers...just a rowdy group of people that didn't have any respect that officers were on scene."
At this point, no other victims have been found.
