BOULDER - Scientists at the University of Colorado predict there will be more earthquakes in southern Colorado along the New Mexico state line.

Anne Sheehan, a professor at CU Boulder, is monitoring a GPS station near Great Sand Dunes National Park.

She and her colleagues rely on those stations to help determine what's going on underground.

A 5.3 earthquake hit southern Colorado last August. It was along the Rio Grande Rift, about 9 miles west of Trinidad.

Scientists say that rift is very much alive and active, and could lead to more earthquakes in the future.

They don't think there will be a lot of quakes, or even big ones, but they do say to expect them.
