DENVER - Colorado has become the first market in the country to get a new "solar shingle" from DowSolar.

Each of the shingles is a solar cell. They're installed like any roofing shingle, but unlike most traditional solar panels, they attach flat to the rooftop and don't change the sight-lines of your home.

They have a 20-year warranty, are not damaged by hail and can be installed by a residential roofer using standard asphalt roofing materials.

There's no real track record for performance here in Colorado, but DowSolar says the shingles will pay for themselves over the life the roof.
