ARAPAHOE COUNTY- 9Wants to Know has confirmed Governor John Hickenlooper has signed an executive order placing the state Attorney General's office in control of the Patrick Sullivan alleged meth-for-sex case.

Since the former Sheriff's arrest in November, the case has been handled by prosecutors the 18th Judicial District in Arapahoe County.

Colorado law no longer requires prosecutors to step aside because of the "appearance of impropriety" or any perceived conflict of interest.

That means investigators and prosecutors in Arapahoe County are not legally obligated to step away from Sullivan's case.

Court documents indicate Arapahoe County District Attorney Carol Chambers requested the transfer of the case to the Attorney General's office.

"I think it will give the public a feeling of security," 9NEWS Legal Analyst Scott Robinson said. "It would have seemed kind of odd for prosecutors who have worked with Sullivan in the past to now be prosecuting him."

Sullivan is accused of showing up to a home in Aurora with meth to exchange the drug for sex with a male prostitute.

The alleged exchange was captured by video and audio equipment set up by the South Metro Drug Task Force.

Investigators are working with two confidential informants in the case who claim they have had past sexual relations with Sullivan in exchange for drugs.

Sullivan remains free on bond and is expected in court later this month.
