According to Littleton Police, at 11:47 p.m. on Jan. 14, a family member entered a home in the 8200 block of South Santa Fe Drive and was stabbed.

The family called 911, and Littleton Police arrived on the scene to help. The man who was stabbed multiple times succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

The man was later identified as John Thomas Jones, 49, of Montauk, N.Y.

According to police, John Jones entered through the front door because it was common for him to visit the home. Officers say he had a key to the house because his mother lived there. Littleton Police say the family was not anticipating John Jones' visit. So, when he entered the spare bedroom in the house, John's nephew, Dylan Jones, mistook him as an unwanted intruder and stabbed him.

Dylan was staying with his grandmother because he had just returned from a vacation. Dylan is 19 years old.

There have been no arrest or formal charges as a result of the incident.
