WESTMINSTER - His name is Braveheart and he has something most kittens don't have: A prosthetic leg.

Veterinarians say his mother gave birth to him and his sister and left them after they got tangled in a thorn bush.

A passerby found them and brought them to the Almost Home Cat Shelter in Westminster.

Volunteers say Braveheart's umbilical cord was wrapped so tightly around his feet - they had to remove his paws and fit him with a prosthesis.

His sister is OK.

The kittens' foster dad says he is so thankful they survived.

"Never give up, they can always be saved. I think it feels awesome. It feels like when you look at them where they've been and they probably wouldn't have been here without people like Almost Home Adoptions," Chris Cline, a volunteer, said.

Braveheart still needs surgery on his other leg and may need a second prosthesis. Treatment for him has cost the shelter thousands of dollars.

But both Braveheart and his sister will eventually be up for adoption.
