Heather Taylor is a breast cancer survivor and now she's battling a brain tumor. On Sunday, she will go down the aisle with her fiancée in the chapel at St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood.
Taylor met her fiancée Jimmy New in February 2010. Later that year in July, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, but several months ago she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Doctors say the cancer has also spread to her spinal fluid.
Still, Taylor and New say their love is stronger than ever.
"He's here for me every step of the way," Taylor said.
"She's the best woman I have ever met. You know you just love someone and it's right," New said.
New proposed to Taylor only a few days ago.
"It's wonderful and I can't wait to officially be her husband," he said.
New says the wedding plans were pulled together last minute, but he and Taylor say they couldn't be more ready.
"It's a little tiring but we're excited," Taylor said.
St. Anthony officials say they believe the wedding will be the first in the hospital. Most of Taylor's family is planning on attending.
"It's nice to know that you have their support," Taylor said.
"It's excited and unexpected. We need it. We all need it," Taylor's mother, Janice Taylor, said.
"It really puts our lives into perspective and really takes a look at what's important in life," New said.
"We've been through thick and thin already and it's time to make it official," Taylor said.
