DENVER - Police say an 80-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a fire truck on its way to a fire Saturday morning.

Matt Murray, a spokesperson for Denver Police, say the woman pulled out in front of the fire truck about 10:30 a.m. The fire truck did have its lights and sirens on.

'With today's airtight vehicles, people have a hard time hearing the sirens," Lt. Phil Champagne, with the Denver Fire Department, said. "Conditions happen very quickly. We train our people to proceed cautiously, but sometimes no matter what you do, these accidents occur."

The accident is still under investigation but it appears the elderly woman pulled out in front of the fire truck and it could not avoid her.
