Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Earl Pettis led all scorers with 20 points
as the La Salle Explorers held off the Duquesne Dukes 71-68 in Atlantic 10
action at the Palumbo Center.
Ramon Galloway notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists for La
Salle (16-6, 5-2 A-10). Jerrell Wright added 10 points for the Explorers, who
have won three straight and nine of 11.
For Duquesne (12-9, 3-4), T.J. McConnell tallied 19 points and six rebounds
while Sean Johnson chipped in with 16 points. The Dukes are now losers of
back-to-back games.
La Salle led by as many as nine points late in the first half but Duquesne
finished the frame on a 13-5 run to cut the deficit to one, 28-27, heading
into halftime.
Duquesne kept its momentum in the beginning of the second half with an 11-2
run in the first three minutes to take a 38-30 lead. After several ties and
lead-changes, La Salle took a 69-66 lead on a Galloway three-point play with
1:03 remaining. Following another basket from the Dukes and two Explorer free-
throws, Jerry Jones missed a three-pointer in the waning seconds that would
have tied to game as La Salle held on to win.
La Salle shot 51.9 percent for the game which helped overcome 18 turnovers.
