DENVER - Investigators are trying to figure out if a home invasion and robbery are related to a burglary Sunday morning. Whether or not the suspect is wanted for one or two crimes, police say he is off the streets thanks to four-legged officers Casey and Onyx.

Dispatchers got a call about a home burglary in progress at an apartment complex in the 1000 Block of Corona Street at 1:10am Sunday morning.

When they got to the scene they saw the suspect running out of an apartment but could not catch him before he hid from officers.

Denver Police called in their Canine unit to help, and soon the four-legged crime fighters were sniffing a trail towards the roof.

Casey and Onyx found the suspect and held him until human officers could arrest him. Officers say the dogs are Belgian Malinois'.

Charges are pending a full investigation. The suspect's name has not been released.

Police say there was a home invasion and robbery the night before at the same complex. They are examining the possibility that the two cases may be related.

The Denver Police Canine Unit has been in existence since 1960. It is currently comprised of six patrol dogs and one bomb dog.
