DENVER - A very shallow snow-maker left the mountains and foothills in sunshine Tuesday morning while light snow continued in the Denver metro area.

An upper-level low pressure system spinning over southern Colorado became disorganized and weak, according to 9NEWS Meteorologist Becky Ditchfield, but the storm was reinforced by cold air moving in from the north Tuesday morning. Many areas around Denver have seen 2 to 5 inches of snow accumulate.

A heavy band of snow developed over parts of downtown Denver and the southwest side of town, bringing more than an inch of snow in just an hour to those areas. While most locations around Denver will see a few inches accumulate, some areas could see slightly more.

Foothills locations and cities near the Palmer Divide could see up to 6 inches of accumulation. Snow over the higher terrain had largely ended by 9 a.m.  In the Denver area and at lower elevations the shallow upslope flow will keep the light snow going until shortly after noon.

Temperatures behind the cold front fell Monday night into the single digits in the Denver metro area. Highs on Tuesday will only be in the middle to upper 20s.

Once this system leaves Tuesday, skies will clear, and temperatures will slowly warm up into the low 40s by the end of the week.
