Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is pushing to have Civic Center Park added to the list of National Historic Landmarks.

In the next few weeks the National Park Service advisory board will give their recommendations to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

The former Colorado senator would then have the final say on whether to make the park a landmark.

In Congress, the U.S. House approved a bill on Wednesday that would establish Chimney Rock as a national monument.

Chimney Rock is in Southwest Colorado.

The bill is sponsored by Rep. Scott Tipton (R-Colorado) and it now moves to the Senate. A similar bill introduced by Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) is already in the Senate.
