"We've seen a significant bump in burglaries," Pazen said. "We attribute it to the weather."
In the Highlands area there have been four burglaries in the past two weeks.
Pazen said two victims left their cars unlocked and two others had their cars broken into.
Burglars stole garage door openers and later came back to the homes to steal more items, police said. "Remember with the beautiful weather that we have here, take that extra time and to lock our doors, lock our windows and if the vehicles is not going to be inside the garage, please remove that garage door opener from the vehicle," Pazen said.
Pazen asked the residents to report any suspicious activity. He said sometimes people call much later after the crime has occurred saying "they didn't want to bother the police." Pazen said he wants to hear the reports and tips, that way crimes could be prevented.
As for the burglars, Pazen said the department has stepped up patrols, but couldn't comment if the officers are close to an arrest.
A few things to remember this summer- lock your car, lock your doors, and close your windows when leaving the home. Close the garage door even if you're home. Don't give thieves an opportunity to take your property.
