Police found the victim in a car parked on the east sidewalk of S. Ironton Street north of E. Alameda Avenue shortly before midnight.
The doors in the car were locked, and the victim was unresponsive when officers arrived. Officers broke a window, pulled the victim from the vehicle and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives from the Major Crime Homicide Unit and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit believe the victim was shot while sitting in a car in a parking lot at 306 S. Ironton St. and then drove the vehicle north on S. Ironton Street, and across E. Alameda Avenue, onto the sidewalk.
Aurora Police are not releasing information about any suspects nor the identity of the victim at this time. Investigators say it's too early to determine a motive, but they do believe this is an isolated event.
On May 11, a 16-year-old girl was also shot in a drive-by shooting less than three miles away near Del Mar Park in Aurora.
When police arrived on scene of the girl was conscious and alert and was taken to the hospital where she was expected to make a full recovery.
The three passengers riding in the 16-year-old girl's vehicle during the shooting were uninjured.
