Temperatures reached 100 degrees at Denver International Airport, breaking the old record of 99 degrees set in 1990 and 1936.

Temperatures soared to 90 degrees by 9 a.m. Monday and reached 100 degrees by the afternoon.

This was not the earliest Denver has ever reached 100 during the warmer season. DIA recorded a high of 102 degrees on June 14, 2006.

According to the 9NEWS Weather Team, Monday was the hottest day of the week. Temperatures Tuesday will be slightly cooler, reaching the lower to middle 90s in the metro area. The record high for June 19 is 98 degrees - last set in 1989.

Temperatures will be much cooler as a system moves through Colorado Wednesday. Highs Wednesday will be in the lower to middle 80s.

Unfortunately, cooler weather is all that is in store. There is little to no chance for showers along the Front Range through Saturday, not helping the firefighters battling both the Springer Fire and the High Park Fire.

Wind gusts up to 30 mph, extremely low humidity and warm temperatures Tuesday will keep fire danger explosive over Colorado's higher terrain.
