The study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine finds patients with atherosclerosis who lived alone had higher death rates than those who lived with a partner.

The results were based on data collected from nearly 45,000 adults. Experts say people who live alone may be less likely to seek medical care when they need it.

The death rates could also be a sign of a stressful situation, like the death of a spouse or a new job.
