Tomlinson told the San Diego Union-Tribune that the Broncos were really the only team he considered playing for in 2012 after they acquired Manning.
"The only team I really gave a thought to was the Broncos, because of Peyton. We talked. Tom (Condon, Tomlinson's agent) talked with them ... It made me pause a little (and think), 'Was this what I really want to do?' ... I said, 'They got Peyton, they have a good defense already; they went deep in the playoffs with Tim Tebow, what are they going to do with Peyton?" Tomlinson said.
Many Chargers fans are probably happy LT made the decision he made. It would be hard to see him on the other sideline for two games of the season.
Tomlinson played for the Chargers from 2001 to 2009, rushing for more than 12,000 yards with the team.
In 2010, he signed with the New York Jets. It appeared as if the 2010 season was all or nothing for Tomlinson, attempting to get his first Super Bowl ring.
"If we would have won the Super Bowl after nine years, I would have retired a Charger. Then I wouldn't even have gone to New York," he said
After rushing for 914 yards during the regular season, Tomlinson and the Jets fell, ironically, to Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
Even if Tomlinson would have won a ring, he admits it wouldn't have felt quite right, which is also why he decided not to pursue playing with the Broncos.
"At the same time, I thought, 'How much is a Super Bowl ring really going to do for you at this point?' Because it's not with the team I really wanted to do it with," he said.
So, for those of you who want to see Manning and Tomlinson on the same squad, you might have to put Madden 2004 into your old Playstation 2 and make a few trades.
