Rollin Oliver, 21, appeared in court Thursday morning in a red prison jumpsuit and was shackled at both his hands and feet. 9NEWS is not describing the man in detail since police have not released his mugshot, saying the investigation is ongoing. Oliver is wearing a red jumpsuit because he is a "high security inmate."

He stood before the judge, looking down most of the time.

Oliver's defense attorney asked the court to limit pre-trial publicity, but the judge did not rule on that issue. The judge added it would be up to the judge who hears this case to make that decision. The judge also declined to unseal the documents for this case.

A number of people who appeared to be related to or know Oliver well were in court as well. As he was taken away, they shouted phrases like "We love you, son" and "Keep your head up, pimp."

Celena Hollis, 32, was shot in the head on June 24 during a fight between two groups, which police attempted to break up. Police say Hollis was working an off-duty shift in full uniform. The shooting occurred shortly after the Jazz in the Park concert series ended around 8 p.m. at City Park.

Hollis' family was also in court on Thursday.

Jail records reviewed by the 9Wants To Know and The Denver Post show Oliver claimed he was a member of the Park Hill Bloods gang.

Oliver's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 2 at 8 a.m.

Investigators are urging eyewitnesses or anyone with information to contact Denver Metro Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP [7867]. They particularly want any photos of the crowd.
