In an email to parents distributed Saturday evening and obtained by 9Wants To Know, Paddington Station leaders said federal prosecutors have informed the school that they do not believe David Moe ever produced child pornography himself.
The 18-year veteran of the elite preschool in Denver's Montclair neighborhood was arrested July 24 after federal agents searched his home, acting on information gathered in an online sting.
Moe, 45, faces federal charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. Court documents reviewed by 9Wants To Know indicate Moe admitted to agents that he had 10,000 explicit images, including some of young children and that he preferred to look at images of females age four and older.
"Please know that our hearts are broken and that we are feeling distraught and hurt," Paddington's executive head Pippi Hambidge said in the Saturday email to parents.
The email said Paddington has enlisted local attorneys to review the school's policies.
Paddington leaders have not responded to repeated requests from 9Wants to Know to outline the school's handling of an incident 10 years ago, when Moe was accused of inappropriate contact with a child.
On Friday, 9Wants to Know reported that, according to documents found by federal agents at Moe's home, the allegation involved a three-year-old girl who claimed that Moe touched her while they were in a bathroom.
Federal prosecutors said nothing was proven.
In the most recent email to parents, Paddington leaders did not elaborate on which law enforcement agencies, if any, were notified 10 years ago.
"To the best of our knowledge, Paddington Station staff handled this appropriately when the alleged incident occurred," the statement read. "We are actively investigating the allegation and we will provide more information as it becomes available."
Moe is on administrative leave from Paddington. His mother said he proclaimed his innocence to family members.
Moe is due to appear in federal court on Monday.
