Police say an officer shot Ryberg after he slipped out of his handcuffs in the back of a patrol car and attacked an officer who was transporting him to District 2 headquarters.
The 22-year-old was picked up on weapons and drug charges in a Colfax hotel in the 6300 block of East 39th Avenue.

9NEWS ran Ryberg's criminal history. It shows he has had several encounters with law enforcement agencies from multiple jurisdictions over the last couple of years.
His most recent arrest was in February for a kidnapping and assault charge in Denver.
He has also spent time in county jail for other offenses, including protection order violations.
He was on probation at the time of his arrest Tuesday.
The officers involved in the shooting have not been identified.
