John Ramsey "Felix" Chinn was arrested by Englewood Police earlier this month and made his initial court appearance last Thursday.

A booking document refers to the charge as "sexual assault on a child, rape" but an Englewood officer told 9NEWS the charge is related to sexual exploitation and child pornography.

Details of the new case against Chinn have not been released but a detective with Englewood Police told 9NEWS on Sunday that the new case is not connected to the 1991 murder of Jakeob McKnight.

McKnight's body was found in a greenbelt near his Lakewood home. He had been stabbed 30 times.

At the time, Lakewood Police Chief Charles Johnston said Chinn and his friend, Tom Judge, were considered suspects in McKnight's death. Chinn told investigators they went swimming with McKnight in a creek the night before the boy's death. Judge, who has since died, told investigators nothing happened during that encounter.

Several alibis also came forward and told police that Chinn was with them eating dinner the night of McKnight's death.

A grand jury heard the case but Chinn was never charged. Regardless, through the years, Lakewood Police detectives have insisted they know the true identity of McNight's killer.

Since 1991, court records indicate that Chinn has been arrested multiple times in Colorado on drug charges.

Chinn is due back in court on the child pornography charge on September 28th. He currently being held in the Arapahoe County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
