Those places include Jackson County in the north-central part of our state, up near the Colorado/Wyoming line. This area is home to both Walden and the State Forest State Park.
This 70,838-acre park was established in 1970 in the Medicine Bow Range, and most of it is forested not only in aspen, but also lodgepole pine, douglas fir, colorado blue spruceand other species. Wildlife in the park includes moose, bighorn sheep, black bear, mule deer and elk.
While visiting, make sure you also check out the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge in North Park. It is located in the valley of the Illinois River, a tributary of the North Platte, where 198 different bird species have been recorded.
